About:
A spin-off of "Happy Days", "Laverne and Shirley" debuted as a mid-season replacement in January of 1976. It foccused on the antics of blue-collar bottlecappers Shirley Feeney and Laverne DeFazio. Friends of Fonzie and Richie, they lived on the "wrong side of the tracks" in Milwaukee, WI, in the basement of a brownstone. Constantly in search of decent dates, relaxation, money and hope, the girls wiled away their time on the Shotz Brewery line, accompanied through life by their greaser enemies/friends, Lenny and Squiggy, whom they've known since high school and haven't been able to shake yet; Carmine Ragusa, Shirley's on again-off again boyfriend; Frank, Laverne's father, who owns the Pizza Bowl, a combination pizza shop/bowling alley; Edna Babbish, their urbane landlord; and Rosie Greenbaum, who married up into proctology and is Laverne's sworn enemy.
In the 1979-1980 season, the girls were permanently fired from Shotz, and they moved to California to try their luck in the movies. They get jobs at the Bardwells Department store as giftwrappers; Lenny and Squiggy drive them to Burbank and open a talent agency/ice cream vending business. Carmine can't stand to be parted from Shirley, and thus becomes a singing telegram. Edna and Frank, now married, open up a Cowboy Bills franchise.
In the California setting, we're introduced to two new characters; Sonny St. Jaques, a stuntman and briefly Laverne's boyfriend, and Rhonda Lee, an actress with a wild personal history who lives nextdoor.
In the 1981-1982 season, Shirley Feeney married Dr. Walter Meaney and became pregnant, then, due to real-life backstage friction, the character moved overseas with her husband.
The show's final two seasons also saw the dissapearence of Lenny, Laverne becoming a space-suit tester, and Frank and Edna's divorce. The final episode of the show followed Carmine's move to New York and the chorus of Broadway's "Hair".
In a reunion show which aired in 2003, we learned that Shirley and Walter produced three children, and Laverne married four times and produced five children. Both are single again and living together. Lenny and Squiggy, meanwhile, work for a reality show...in hole number five, licking people.
Lifetime TV currently airs the show on its Lifetime: Real Women network, seven days a week, at noon.
