About:

Created by the lyricist behind "Footloose" and "Fame," and based on Stephen King's book and the movie by Brian DePalma, "Carrie: The Musical" debuted on Broadway on May 12, 1988 after being workshopped in London.

The show became notorious as one of Broadway's biggest bombs, closing within weeks of its debut, but since then it's become a major cult hit among fans of the "Carrie" phenomena. The show plays on to much kinder reviews in high school and college productions.

Five Quick Facts About Carrie The Musical:

  • 1: During opening night for the show's Broadway run, Betty Buckley was booed offstage at the finale.


  • 2: The show has a show business term named after it: In New York, "Pulling a Carrie" is a total failure.


  • 3: The show is now a camp classic - it is often acted out at horror conventions.


  • 4: It's rumored that Stephen King is collaborating on another horror musical based on his work.


  • 5: Among "Carrie" alumnus who went on to better things: Debbie Allen.
